Twisted Cornrows

Sunday 20th October 2013

I decided to try out a funky design on my daughters hair. I sectioned the hair first and then twisted each section. It was quite time consuming and fiddly but I found myself getting quicker and neater as I went on next time I think I will use some gel to keep the little strands in place and maybe try a full head. My little girl loved this style and thought it was very trendy.

First Colour

Friday 8th November 2013

My client came into the salon and she usually had a full head of highlights but she found that her roots were showing too quickly and she also wanted something that would give her grey hair better coverage. We had only just been introduced to colours so my tutor helped me to advise the client to go for an all over colour that would blend in nicely with her highlights. My tutor helped me mix and apply the colour and I found this to be easier than I expected and I really enjoyed it. I had to ensure I rinsed all the colour away thoroughly. My client wanted her hair blow dried with volume but flicked out at the ends, this took a bit of getting used to but I soon got the hang of it and she was really pleased with the results.

One Length Cut

Tuesday 5th November 2013

My neighbour was one of my first clients who was brave enough to have her hair cut by me. She had long layers which she no longer wanted so we decided to cut a good two inches of her hair so she had a one length cut all over. I was quite nervous doing this cut and a mistake I made was not keeping her head all the way down when cutting the hair. My tutor helped me neaten up the edges and everything was fine but that is something I will now remember when doing my next cut. I blow dried it smooth and straight and she was delighted with the finished result.

Fundraising

October 7th - 11th 2013

October 7th - 11th was Hair for Hospices week we all got involved in this and came up with lots of ideas. We baked cakes to sell to the students and clients, we invited local children into the salon where we plaited and braided their hair with funky ribbons for a small donation, we donated £1 from every paying client all week, our tutor wore a different wig every day, we went collecting with collection buckets and one of the students Charlotte had half her head shaved. It was a fantastic week and altogether we raised £1049.84 which was incredible. We were invited along to the Queenscourt Hospice in Southport to see just how the money would be spent and learn more about the hospice. We were all very proud of our achievements and glad to see it going to such a worthy cause.
