Root Colour and Long Graduation

The client came in and wanted her roots doing she was happy with her colour but she felt like it wasn't covering the grey very well. She usually had a 9.3 on her hair so I decided to stick to the colour she was happy with but mix it with 9.0 to give her better coverage of the more resistant grey hair. She was delighted with the results and I thought it came out really well. She also wanted a trim so as she was happy with the style we stuck to the long graduation hair cut. The client had a lot of really thick hair so I had to make sure I was combing the hair and holding it up really well. Her hair was really kinky at the root so I made sure I took really fine sections when blow drying and pulled it quite firmly as she liked her hair to be smooth and straight, this took a long time but it was worth it in the end as she was delighted with it.

T-section Woven Highlights

The client came in and wanted her roots doing she wasn't happy with her hair as she had been having highlights for a while and it had become almost a block colour. I suggested that we broke it up a bit by using a colour similar to her natural base and alternating this with the blonde. I decided to use a high lift tint rather than bleach as her base colour was quite light. I made sure that I didn't overlap the high lift tint and only applied it to the root area. Then on the next section I applied the base colour all the way down the hair to cover the blonde. I had to be really careful as the client had really thin hair so I made sure I took really fine sections and was very careful when weaving each section. The client was really pleased with the finished result and I think by using two colours rather than just the blonde really helped break it up and it looked a lot more natural.

Cap Highlights

The client had asked for really fine highlights all over, her hair was short so I decided to try using the cap to highlight her hair. I found it ok putting the cap on and pulling the hair through and it was really quick, I think the finished result was really nice but I think using the cap can be a bit uncomfortable for the client.

Short Graduation

I was really worried about the Short Graduation cut but once I got the angles right I found I was understanding the cut more. I found it quite tricky cutting around the ears and this is something I think I will need to practice but I was really pleased with the end result and so was the client.

Twisted Cornrows

I decided to try out a funky design on my daughters hair. I sectioned the hair first and then twisted each section. It was quite time consuming and fiddly but I found myself getting quicker and neater as I went on next time I think I will use some gel to keep the little strands in place and maybe try a full head. My little girl loved this style and thought it was very trendy.

First Colour

My client came into the salon and she usually had a full head of highlights but she found that her roots were showing too quickly and she also wanted something that would give her grey hair better coverage. We had only just been introduced to colours so my tutor helped me to advise the client to go for an all over colour that would blend in nicely with her highlights. My tutor helped me mix and apply the colour and I found this to be easier than I expected and I really enjoyed it. I had to ensure I rinsed all the colour away thoroughly. My client wanted her hair blow dried with volume but flicked out at the ends, this took a bit of getting used to but I soon got the hang of it and she was really pleased with the results. 

One Length Cut

My neighbour was one of my first clients who was brave enough to have her hair cut by me. She had long layers which she no longer wanted so we decided to cut a good two inches of her hair so she had a one length cut all over. I was quite nervous doing this cut and a mistake I made was not keeping her head all the way down when cutting the hair. My tutor helped me neaten up the edges and everything was fine but that is something I will now remember when doing my next cut. I blow dried it smooth and straight and she was delighted with the finished result.
